The Funai Electric Advanced Applied Technology Research Institute developed a new efficient type of LCD, that actually does not require any backlight.  The display is very efficient - it uses 1% of the power of regular LCDs.

The new displays use a special dye that changes colors when current is applied. The display quality is 'on a par with printed characters on paper'

oled evolution 2010 and on.....

Everything relating to oled and oled evolution to 2010 and on.... its near future development, will dependent upon the courage of manufacturers. The decision's of executives will be made when they are confident that they are solidly ahead in comparison to the offerings of their competitors. Samsung, the Sony of the 21st century, had a functional 40 inch oled TV only a centimeter thin back in 2005! Their courage got them that far, but their fears stopped them at that point! Had they continued, today they would be selling an 80 inch wide three millimeter thick roll-able oled TV that cost $2,500.00. Samsung had the courage, as the Sony substitute in this 21st century, but the executives' fears overcame Samsung's enthusiasm. There will be big surprises within the "TV morphing, video enhancing," groups worldwide, and we'll have the best in thin HD plasma, in thin LCD, in thinner OLED, AOLED, PLED, ETC, AND LASER FORMATS to chose from.
